urban and regional planning
While moonlighting as an employee of a government agency (hehe), I intend to be a student of the school of urban and regional planning. I'm posting the admission details of the school to assess if I am qualified or not. I am for urban and regional planning; urban and regional planning is for me hehehe...Back in the undergrad, i had cursory studies on development plans, particularly in CALABARZON. Such studies entailed knowledge on analysis of development plan, land use plan and maps accompanying the plan. I have high regards on the comprehensive land use plan, as this is the ultimate graphical representation of the development policies that will be implemented in the area for at least 5years (excluding the politics underneath the plan?). I also had straits in accessing the comp land use plans - it was difficult to hurdle the bureaucracy owning that plan.
Our petty studies on development plans, issues on land use conversion (e.g., Metro Taal Tagaytay Development Plan) lacked discussion on technical aspects of the development plan since we lacked the technical facility to discuss these matters. We can never discuss the issue with the technocrats, it was a mere academic mediocrity hehe. Hmm, I would probably integrate urban and regional development in Development Studies program, adding to its multifaceted character and acknowledging that urban and regional development is a socio-economic realm that needs to be understand among students of development. That is, if I obtained the degree and subsequently pursue my professorial endeavor. I want to raise my knowledge on development planning and I am really interested with the course (period).

I've decided to unload my mobile inbox and thus this will serve as a repository of some of the forwarded quotes I deem to be of worth. I hesitate to delete these though I presume that they're not personally intended for me, I simply belong to the senders' VIP group (recipient via their unlimited txt grants hehe)

In the middle of perplexities and despair, always remember what a determined person will tell you:
"If it can't be, it has to be"
So many thing cry out to be done and always urgently... Ten thousand years are too long. Seize the day, seize the hour
because love is an act of courage, not of fear; love is commitment to other men. No matter were the oppresed are, the act of love is commiment to to their cause - of liberation. As act of bravery, love is can't be sentimental; as act of freedom, it must serve as pretext to manipulation, it must generate other acts of freedom; otherwise, it's not love. Only by abolishing the situation of oppression is it possible to restore the love which that situation made impossible
Do not be like someone of our countrymen who are wise and able but have no courage to fight our masters and oppressors. They are timid and would like always to retreat.
The conventional interpretation of the median voter theorem maintains that if the underlying assumption is true, one would expect initial inequality to affect growth in democratic, but not in undemocratic countries
Gets? Hahaha
One must not follow without discrimination...Wherever truth is, we follow...One must have independent thinking

Global Dimming
A short documentary from BBC about the phenomenon
GLOBAL DIMMING:
Manifestations:
a. decrease in solar energy (israel and germany's bavarian alps)
b. fall in pan evaporation rate
Experiment:
Project Indo X: polluted north and pristine south Maldives
pollutants have more surface where the water molecule can fall but is far more smaller than it is normally.
thus, more small water molecule would reflect more light... reflect sunlight, thus not allow sunlight to pass through and appearing the clouds to be bright
Ethiopian Drought maybe caused by the fall of sunlight as the sunlight is necessary to drag the rainfall to the area (african monsoon) thus resulting to failure in rainfall
But without global dimming, also a threat!
catch: as we are in threat to the phenomena of global dimming, it is (to some extent) protecting us from greater threat!!!
Experiment :9/11 aftermath and contrails
Dr Travis
contrails! no contrails when comml planes were grounded
thus establish the effect of contrails to the atmosphere
sept 11-13 = highest temperature range, jumped to 1 deg cel
(warmer in day/cooler in night) - lack of clouds
-drop in global dimming because airplanes were grounded (there were no contrails). The findings implied that decrease in global dimming resulted in higher temperature ( higher temperature range)
GLOBAL WARMING VS. GLOBAL DIMMING
-from greenhouse gases warming and from particle pollutants
-we are more inclined towards global warming
-the bottomline is we can't confront global dimming without confronting the real culprit-pollution from various industries that contribute to greenhouse gases; in our attempt to cover up global dimming, we are positioning ourselves to a bigger threat of global warming.

Sun Bin's Art of War
some thoughts from Sun Bin's Art of War
Amidst the Warring States Period, Sun Bin stood out as one of the most brilliant and important (if not the most) military strategist of this period. He served as a military adviser for the state of Qi, his home state after he suffered deceit in the State of Wei. Here are some thoughts from Master Sun Bin from his dialogue with the King Weiwang of Qi
War is not omnipotent, belligerent rulers are bound to ruin their state.
Conditions necessary to achieve victory in war:
Needless to reiterate, I totally agree with Sun Bin. We can't replace the backward with the application of benevolence or anything similar with Gandhi's passive resistance. Unless we intend to hoax advancement and change in favor of the justification of the backward and the justification of present system that led the majority to the unabated oppression. Why do we need to fight through war? Because the efficacy of benevolence is futile when the opponent do not acknowledge benevolence, do not acknowledge the majority's freedom and rights - not just civil rights that the written law has imparted to each and every citizen of the state (I'm actually referring to the modern states) but more importantly, the political and economic freedom. The very right to have access to the basic needs, needs that must be satiated first as stated by Maslow. We could not change the system by solely relying on the written law that emanated from the state itself. The state was created in defense of the oppressor, so does the law. Law was created to justify and perpetuate the oppression of oppressor to the oppressed. The legal machinery was a fruit and means of their oppression. More so, we cannot lobby for change via faith or benevolence when our enemy are the artificer of oppression, it will never occur that benevolence and oppression reconciled.
In the case of our state, our enemy is the administration and its machineries - legal and military among others. Why does AFP exist? Is it to wage war against other nations threatening our territory. Weh? Enschuldigung, don't waste our money for defense allocation!
feign defeat at the first instance
principle of gaining overall victory with partial loss
tactics:whereas B pertains to the enemy
A=B: first order a small detachment under a brave officer to launch a probing attack on the enemy formation. While probing operation is ongoing, ready the main force for the offensive
(large) A vs. (small) B : commander should puposely make the battle array look confused and in disorder so as to cater to the wishes of the enemies and lure them to engage in a decisive battle
(small)A vs (large)B: divide the force into two units. keep the main force mobile and deploy another unit that will confront the enemies. Main forces should reserve their strengths in attacking the enemy once they're exhausted
If B is driven into impasse : wipe him out when he attempts to fight his way out
If B and A are evenly matched : confuse him and mislead him into dividing his forces then secretly concentrate superior forces to wipe out the divided enemy units one by one
to be continued...

Master of the Universe: Stephen Hawking
Stephen Hawking gained worldwide fame with his book the Brief History of Time (from Big Bang to Black Hole). More than his integration of two great discoveries in the history of physics - Einstein's Theory of Relativity and the principle of quantum mechanics, what made him great is his resistance to accept the status quo. First, the deteriorating condition of his body as he was suffering from a fatal condition, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - the progressive degeneration of the nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movement. As this fatal disease progressed, he had lost his capacity to write, thus, he had no choice but to keep all the mathematical formulas and equations over his head! What a genius! Second, his gift for inquiry led him to his quest for his answers to his query on how the universe started - his resistance for accepting man's finity in knowing the universe. His important contribution ( with the help of his equally brilliant colleagues and graduate students) was the unity of relativity theory and quantum mechanics in the process of the birth of this universe and within the context of the entity called blackhole.
Blackholes came from the collapse of a large entity to a very small (as in smaller than atom) dense "particle". The particle then, as it became very small and consequently very dense, spread out to form what we refer as the blackhole. At the edge of the blackhole were subatomic particles (enter the quantum mechanics)..... Hay, I believe that the accuracy of what i am trying to impart is not that of any academician or scientist could provide. I am not credentialed in any manner! I am just a mere fan of Mr. Hawking. Who could have thought that he will battle his fatal condition in that way ( contributing great discovery in physics )?
